JOB DESCRIPTION            Force Management is the Army’s capstone process used to field combat ready units.  As an Instructor/Facilitator at the Army Force Management School (AFMS) you will educate and instruct individuals to help create and develop leaders who can effect change and integrate the numerous and invaluable Force Management practices and processes.  Instruction and facilitation will focus primarily on "How the Army Runs" (HTAR) and certain Standard Operating Procedures.

HTAR is designed to educate and train military and civilian Force Managers on how the Army runs in the current Operating Environment (OE). It teaches the roles, missions, and functions of the (i) seven interdependent and continuous processes within the Army Force Management Model (e.g., strategy, joint capabilities integration and development system, defense acquisition system, structure, authorizations, personnel, and equipment), (ii) the nine Force Integration Functional Areas (e.g., structuring, manning, equipping, training, sustaining, funding, deploying, stationing, and readiness), and (iii) the requirements and acquisition processes that work together to produce trained and ready forces for the Combatant Commanders.

  • Job Duties       
  • Instruct and facilitate courses in accordance with Army Learning Model (ALM) the principles and delivery techniques.
  • Prepare lesson plans and other coursework, including student handouts, slide decks, training aids, course management plans, content research, etc.
  • Coordinate quality reviews of AFMS course content by external authorities.
  • Conduct reviews of other learning institutions’ curriculum.
  • Coordinate and lead and/or support the creation and maintenance of:
    • Portions of "How The Army Runs (HTAR)" - the US Army War College's reference book which serves as a primer and ready reference to officers preparing to assume command, leadership and management positions at the strategic level.
    • Portions of AFMS Academic Standing Operating Procedures (SOP).
    • Research papers, white papers, functional primers, reports, and briefings as required.
  • Provide on-site training instruction and facilitation at locations throughout the United States; 2- to 5-day training courses.
  • Conduct online synchronous and asynchronous distributed learning.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, integrate, and prepare staffing actions at the high-quality standard of HQDA.
  • Expert in the Force Management Process within the U.S. Army and familiar with similar processes at the DoD level. Must be knowledgeable of recent US Army efforts concerning the Army Modernization Enterprise (AME). Additionally, IF must be capable of teaching other areas of the How The Army Runs (HTAR) functions: Strategy, Capability Development, Manning, Equipping, Training, and or Readiness.
  • Facilitation of training and education sessions utilizing adult learning techniques.

  • Must possess a Bachelor degree
  • Must have graduated:
    • Command & General Staff College or equivalent Intermediate Level Education (ILE).
    • AFMS HTARC / AFMC or FA50Q course.

  • Experience       
  • Minimum of:
    • 3 years’ of relevant experience including instruction on FM related processes and systems for DOD organizations.
    • -- OR --
    • 5 years of similar experience supporting DOD organizations.
